5 Summer Must Dos In The Washington DC Area

PerhapFourth of July Fireworkss you just bought a beautiful home in the DC area, and while we’re sure you are very excited to finally be able to sit in your gorgeous new living room in front of that new television and just relax, summer is here! With beautiful weather on the horizon you’ll soon have no excuse to not go out and explore the city you now get to call home! For those both new and accustomed to the area, here are five summer “must dos” that all ages can enjoy.

Key Bridge Boathouse

The Key Bridge Boathouse is a unique way to explore the D.C. sites while getting in some exercise. Canoes, kayaks, and standup paddle boats are available to rent, and if you have your own boat, private storage is offered here. Located right on the Georgetown Waterfront, the sites that surround you on the water are marvelous—enjoy all of the National Mall monuments just a short ride up the Potomac River! Don’t quite have your sea legs yet? The Boathouse offers fitness, yoga, kayak, canoe, and paddleboard classes for all ages and skill levels. If you’re looking for a fun family outing, the Boathouse offers something invigorating for everyone to enjoy.

Jazz in the Garden

Ask any Washingtonian about can’t-miss summer events, and Jazz in the Garden will certainly be high on their list. Every Friday evening at 5 PM from May 22 – August 28, Jazz artists boasting a range of styles from around the country play in the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden, located just a short walk from the National Mall. Buy some nice, cool beverages once inside or bring a picnic and enjoy a wonderful, free concert surrounded by some of the most impressive sculpture art our country has to offer.

Washington Nationals Game

Who doesn’t enjoy a day at the ball park? This season the Nationals are ranked one of the top MLB teams, and here they’re just a short metro ride and online ticket purchase away. Games go on throughout the summer any day of the week which makes finding a time that works for the whole family easy. Become part of Washington sports’ fandom, and don’t forget to stop by Shake Shack or Ben’s Chili Bowl at the state-of-the-art stadium!

Screen on the Green

HBO and Comcast have joined forces to bring us one of Washington’s favorite traditions, Screen on the Green, where thousands of people converge on the National Mall to enjoy a film festival on a 40-foot outdoor screen. On four Monday nights at the end of July and in early August, four different movies will be played for free. Viewings begin at sunset around 8 PM, and are a great way to end your day with family or friends. Dates and movies are listed on the HBO’s Screen on the Green website so you can plan ahead of time for the movies you won’t want to miss!

Fourth of July Fireworks on the National Mall

Fireworks are the best Fourth of July holiday tradition next to wearing red, white, and blue. So how lucky are you that you can watch the most famous fireworks right here in the nation’s capital?! The firework show begins at 9:10 PM, and you can watch them launch from the Reflecting Pool area or in multiple viewing areas around the National Mall including the lawns of the Washington Monument, the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials, and the U.S. Capitol. You aren’t a true local until you’ve experienced this Fourth of July shebang!
